Hello! I’m Yessie Joy Verbena, the driving force behind Blackberry Academy. My mission is clear: to reconnect children with nature. In a world dominated by screens, I’m committed to reversing the trend.

At Blackberry Academy, I’ve cultivated a sanctuary where children flourish amidst the natural world. Our community garden plot allows them to grow food, learn about composting, and explore flora and fauna. And our home base—beautiful Blue Heron Park in Phoenix, Oregon—immerses them in wetlands, springs, and wildlife.

But my commitment goes beyond green spaces. I’m passionate about equity in outdoor education. Every child, regardless of background or ability, deserves access to the wonders of nature. I celebrate neurodiversity, recognizing that each young mind blooms uniquely—wild, free, and full of potential.
